Mt
Washington Regional Airport's airfield is sited in the middle of
an old polo field on land that was donated to the town of Whitefield
in 1947 by Frank Dodge, an operator of one of the last of the Grand
Hotels. Mr. Dodge recognized that as Americans became more mobile
their vacation patterns would change from extended stays at destination
resorts to shorter visits to more locations.
While vacation
styles and patterns have changed over the 125 years that visitors have
been coming to New Hampshire's North Country, the lure of the White
Mountains continues to grow. More people visit the White Mountains
each year than Yosemite and Yellowstone National Parks. Our members,
listed below, have been part of this growth and contribute to the beauty
of the White Mountains.
